The Allergy First-Line Blood Test checks 8 common allergens plus total IgE (9 markers) in one blood sample. It covers cat and dog, house dust mite, grass and tree pollen, egg white, milk and peanut, and is a sensible starting point before any more targeted investigation.
Allergy symptoms can come from many triggers. This panel looks for IgE antibodies, the type of antibody involved in many allergic reactions, to the most common ones.
| Group | Allergens |
|---|---|
| Pets (2) | Cat epithelium and dander, Dog epithelium |
| Dust mite (1) | House dust mite (D. pteronyssinus) |
| Pollen (2) | Timothy grass, Silver birch |
| Foods (3) | Egg white, Milk, Peanut |
| Total IgE (1) | Total IgE, a general marker of allergic activity |
Results are returned within 3 to 5 working days.
Not necessarily. An IgE result shows sensitisation, which means your immune system has made antibodies to a substance. Whether it causes symptoms depends on your history, so results are interpreted alongside what you experience.
Blood tests for specific IgE are not normally affected by antihistamines, unlike skin prick tests. Tell us what you take when you book.
No. It measures IgE antibodies linked to allergy, not intolerances.
For a wider look, the Allergy Enhanced Panel covers 17 allergens and the Allergy Complete Panel covers 62. For a single area, see the Food, Pollen and Grass, Pet and Animal Dander and Mould and Fungal panels.
This test measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies in your blood and does not diagnose an allergy on its own. It does not replace care from your GP. If you have had a severe reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or collapse, seek emergency help. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your health information.
