The Allergy Pollen and Grass Blood Test checks 15 tree, grass and weed pollens plus total IgE (16 markers) in one blood sample. It is designed for people with seasonal sneezing, itchy eyes and a runny nose, often called hay fever or seasonal allergic rhinitis.
The test looks for IgE antibodies, the type of antibody involved in many allergic reactions, to each pollen.
| Group | Allergens |
|---|---|
| Trees (8) | Beech, Grey alder, Hazel tree, Maple tree, Oak, Silver birch, Walnut tree pollen, Willow |
| Grasses (5) | June grass, Meadow fescue, Orchard grass, Perennial rye grass, Timothy grass |
| Weeds (2) | English plantain, Mugwort |
| Total IgE (1) | Total IgE, a general marker of allergic activity |
Results are returned within 3 to 5 working days.
Not necessarily. An IgE result shows sensitisation, which means your immune system has made antibodies to a pollen. Whether it causes symptoms depends on your history, so results are interpreted alongside what you experience.
Blood tests for specific IgE are not normally affected by antihistamines, unlike skin prick tests. Tell us what you take when you book.
No. For those, see the Allergy First-Line Panel, the Pet and Animal Dander Panel or the Allergy Enhanced Panel.
This test measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies in your blood and does not diagnose an allergy on its own. It does not replace care from your GP. If you have had a severe reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or collapse, seek emergency help. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your health information.
