Frequently asked questions

How long do allergy test results take?

Results are returned within 3 to 5 working days.

Does a positive result mean I have hay fever?

Not necessarily. An IgE result shows sensitisation, which means your immune system has made antibodies to a pollen. Whether it causes symptoms depends on your history, so results are interpreted alongside what you experience.

Can I take antihistamines before the test?

Blood tests for specific IgE are not normally affected by antihistamines, unlike skin prick tests. Tell us what you take when you book.

Does this test cover house dust mite or pets?

No. For those, see the Allergy First-Line Panel, the Pet and Animal Dander Panel or the Allergy Enhanced Panel.

Good to know

This test measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies in your blood and does not diagnose an allergy on its own. It does not replace care from your GP. If you have had a severe reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or collapse, seek emergency help. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your health information.
