The Allergy Pet and Animal Dander Blood Test checks 8 animal allergens plus total IgE (9 markers) in one blood sample. It covers cat, dog, horse, rabbit, guinea pig, hamster and cow, and shows which animals your immune system has made antibodies to.
The test looks for IgE antibodies, the type of antibody involved in many allergic reactions, to each animal allergen.
| Group | Allergens |
|---|---|
| Cat (1) | Cat epithelium and dander |
| Dog (2) | Dog dander, Dog epithelium |
| Small animals (3) | Rabbit epithelium, Guinea pig epithelium, Hamster epithelium |
| Farm animals (2) | Horse dander, Cow dander |
| Total IgE (1) | Total IgE, a general marker of allergic activity |
Results are returned within 3 to 5 working days.
Not necessarily. An IgE result shows sensitisation, which means your immune system has made antibodies to the animal. Whether it causes symptoms depends on your history, so results are interpreted alongside what you experience.
Blood tests for specific IgE are not normally affected by antihistamines, unlike skin prick tests. Tell us what you take when you book.
No. For those, see the Allergy First-Line Panel or the Allergy Enhanced Panel.
This test measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies in your blood and does not diagnose an allergy on its own. It does not replace care from your GP. If you have had a severe reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or collapse, seek emergency help. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your health information.
