The Allergy Mould and Fungal Blood Test checks 7 moulds and yeasts plus total IgE (8 markers) in one blood sample. It covers Alternaria, Aspergillus, Cladosporium, Penicillium, Candida albicans and baker's and brewer's yeast.
Mould allergy symptoms, such as a persistent stuffy nose, cough, wheeze or skin reactions, can resemble a cold or asthma. The test looks for IgE antibodies, the type of antibody involved in many allergic reactions, to each mould or yeast.
| Group | Allergens |
|---|---|
| Moulds (4) | Alternaria tenuis, Aspergillus fumigatus, Cladosporium herbarum, Penicillium notatum |
| Yeasts (3) | Candida albicans, Baker's yeast, Brewer's yeast |
| Total IgE (1) | Total IgE, a general marker of allergic activity |
Results are returned within 3 to 5 working days.
Not necessarily. An IgE result shows sensitisation, which means your immune system has made antibodies to the mould. Whether it causes symptoms depends on your history, so results are interpreted alongside what you experience.
No. A Candida albicans IgE result shows sensitisation to it. It does not diagnose a Candida infection or overgrowth.
Blood tests for specific IgE are not normally affected by antihistamines, unlike skin prick tests. Tell us what you take when you book.
No. For a wider look, see the Allergy First-Line Panel, the Allergy Enhanced Panel or the Allergy Complete Panel.
This test measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies in your blood and does not diagnose an allergy on its own. It does not replace care from your GP. If you have had a severe reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or collapse, seek emergency help. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your health information.
