Food Allergy Blood Test — 31 Foods + Total IgE

£320.00

The Allergy Food Blood Test checks 31 foods plus total IgE (32 markers) in one blood sample. It covers many of the UK's 14 major food allergens, including milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, sesame, soya, fish, crab, shrimp, wheat, rye, oat and celery.

It does not cover all 14 major allergens (for example lupin, mustard, molluscs and sulphites are not included). The test looks for IgE antibodies, the type of antibody involved in many allergic reactions, to each food.

Frequently asked questions

How long do allergy test results take?

Results are returned within 3 to 5 working days.

Does a positive result mean I have a food allergy?

Not necessarily. An IgE result shows sensitisation, which means your immune system has made antibodies to a food. Many people are sensitised without having symptoms, so results are interpreted alongside what happens when you eat the food.

Does this test check for food intolerance?

No. It measures IgE antibodies linked to allergy. It does not test for intolerances such as lactose intolerance or coeliac disease.

Should I stop eating a food if my result is positive?

Do not cut out foods, particularly for children, without advice from a clinician. A positive result alone does not show that a food is causing your symptoms.

Can I take antihistamines before the test?

Blood tests for specific IgE are not normally affected by antihistamines, unlike skin prick tests. Tell us what you take when you book.

Which allergy panel should I choose?

For food, pet and environmental triggers together, see the Allergy Enhanced Panel or the Allergy Complete Panel.

Good to know

This test measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies in your blood and does not diagnose an allergy on its own. It does not replace care from your GP. If you have had a severe reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or collapse, seek emergency help. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your health information.
