Blood drawn at your home or workplace · Analysed by Randox · Results in about 72 hours · Explained by Lucy, our lead clinician

The Iron Studies Blood Test measures four markers: ferritin, serum iron, transferrin and transferrin saturation. Together they show how much iron your body stores, carries and can use.

Haemoglobin on its own can look normal while iron stores are low, so iron studies give a fuller picture than a basic blood count. Low iron is one of several possible causes of tiredness and hair shedding.

What the Iron Studies Blood Test measures

Biomarker What it shows
Ferritin Your iron stores
Serum iron The iron currently circulating in your blood
Transferrin The protein that carries iron around your body
Transferrin saturation The percentage of transferrin that is carrying iron
