Kidney Function Blood Test — Renal Health Check

£120.99

The Kidney Function Blood Test measures four markers: creatinine, eGFR, urea and sodium. It shows how well your kidneys are filtering waste and balancing fluids.

Kidney problems often cause no symptoms early on, so a blood test is a practical way to check, particularly if you take supplements or medication that can affect the kidneys.

What the Kidney Function Blood Test measures

Biomarker What it shows
Creatinine A waste product filtered by the kidneys; raised levels can mean reduced kidney function
eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) An estimate of how well your kidneys filter blood, calculated from creatinine, age and sex
Urea A waste product that is also affected by hydration and protein intake
Sodium An electrolyte your kidneys help regulate to keep fluid balance

Frequently asked questions

How long do results take?

Results are usually available within 72 hours.

Can creatine or protein supplements affect my results?

Creatine and a high-protein diet can raise creatinine and urea in some people. Tell us what you take when you book so your results can be read in that context.

Is eGFR measured or calculated?

eGFR is calculated from your creatinine result, age and sex, so it is an estimate.

Do I need to prepare?

We will tell you how to prepare when you book, for example how much to drink beforehand.
