Signs You Might Need More Vitamin B12 – And Why Optimal Levels Matter

Vitamin B12 is essential for energy production, red blood cell formation, nerve health, mood balance and DNA synthesis. As a Vitamin Therapist at Boost & Glow, I see many clients whose symptoms improve dramatically once they reach optimal B12 levels – even when conventional ranges say they're "fine."

Common Signs of Low B12

Deficiency often creeps in slowly, showing up as:

- Persistent fatigue or weakness (even after good sleep)

- Brain fog, poor concentration or memory lapses

- Mood changes: irritability, anxiety or low mood

- Tingling/numbness in hands, feet or "pins and needles"

- Pale or slightly yellow skin

- Sore, red or smooth tongue; mouth ulcers

- Shortness of breath or heart palpitations

- Digestive issues like nausea or reduced appetite

If several of these feel familiar, your body may be asking for more B12 support – even if you've been told your levels are "normal."

Why Blood Levels Can Be Misleading

Standard lab ranges often accept 200–900 pg/mL as normal, but many people only feel energised, clear-headed and strong when levels are optimally high – ideally 750 pg/mL and above.

The most reliable guide is your symptoms, not just the number. You can feel exhausted, foggy or achy well before the lab flags a problem. B12 is water-soluble, so your body simply excretes any excess – making it very safe to supplement or receive via injection/IV when needed.

B12 + Folate: Essential for Iron Absorption & Utilisation

B12 and folate work together in the methylation cycle to help your body make healthy red blood cells. Without optimal levels of both, iron cannot be used effectively – even if iron stores look adequate. Low B12 can trap folate in an inactive form, leading to poor red cell production (megaloblastic changes) and ongoing fatigue or anaemia-like symptoms.

To truly support iron levels, oxygen transport and energy, you need optimal B12 and folate working alongside iron. Many clients see big improvements in stamina and recovery when all three are addressed.

Why B12 Shortfalls Are So Common Today

- Overfarming and overpopulation have depleted soils of nutrients and microbes needed for B12 precursors in the food chain.

- Toxins and pollutants interfere with absorption or increase demand.

- Vegan/vegetarian diets lack natural sources.

- Medications (e.g., metformin, PPIs for acid reflux, certain antibiotics) reduce uptake.

- Chronic stress raises B12 requirements.

- Gut issues (low stomach acid, IBS, Crohn's) impair absorption.

How We Support Optimal B12 at Boost & Glow

We focus on how you feel – not just numbers. For fast, reliable results we offer B12 injections or IV drips (often combined with folate support) to bypass gut absorption problems. Many clients report clearer energy, better mood and stronger resilience within days to weeks.

If you're tired of feeling "okay on paper" but drained in real life, book a consultation. Let's listen to your symptoms and get you to that optimal zone.

P.S. Because B12 is water-soluble and very safe, optimising it alongside folate can transform how well your body uses iron – and how you feel every day!
