1

Preheat & prep your tin

Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C fan). Grease a 20cm round cake tin and line the base with baking paper. The riper your bananas, the sweeter and more moist your cake will be — black-spotted is ideal.

2

Mash the bananas

Peel and mash the 3 bananas in a large bowl until completely smooth with no large lumps. A fork works fine — or blitz briefly with a hand blender for an ultra-smooth batter.

3

Add eggs & protein

Crack in the 4 eggs and whisk together with the mashed banana. Add the chocolate whey protein powder (plus cacao powder and baking powder if using) and stir until a smooth, thick batter forms. Fold in dark chocolate chips if using.

4

Pour & bake

Pour the batter into your prepared tin and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 20–25 minutes until the top is set and a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean. Don't overbake — it should be slightly fudgy inside.

5

Cool & slice

Leave the cake to cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing. It firms up as it cools — slicing too early will cause it to crumble. Cut into 6 and store in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Pro Tips

Make it Work for You

🍌

Riper = Better

The riper the bananas, the sweeter and more moist the cake. Overripe, almost black bananas are perfect — they bring natural sweetness so you won't miss the sugar at all.

💪

Protein Brand Matters

Different whey proteins absorb differently and vary in sweetness. If your batter looks too thick, add a tablespoon of milk. Too runny? Add a little more protein or a tbsp of oat flour.

🍫

Upgrade the Texture

Adding 1 tsp baking powder gives a lighter, fluffier rise. For extra richness, stir in 1 tbsp cacao powder and a handful of 85% dark choc chips — still clean, massively more indulgent.
